He had just downed his 53rd victory and his AC suffered engine damage during the skirmish. 135 combat missions, all victories in the East. On 21 August, 1942, his AC, Bf 109F-4 Werk # 10161 suffered engine damage, he bailed out near Motewski Russia, his AC destroyed. MIA 5 September, 1942; listed as MIA after aerial combat, but returned 4 days later. Uninjured in his G-2 which crashed at Petsamo, damaged during aerial combat. (SIG Norway).
